To summarise, we will be temporarily closing the Hitman Absolution Contracts Mode server before the end of May and removing the option to purchase Contracts Mode DLC for the game until further notice.
To be compliant with the GDPR changes on May 25th and to give our players advanced warning, as well as the time that it will take to remove the DLC from sale, we needed to make a tough decision. We want to keep the servers running and we have been investigating various ways to make that possible.
That ownership lies with the game’s original publisher. This change has been forced upon us due to a combination of incoming GDPR rules and the fact that we do not have ownership of the Absolution Contracts Mode servers.
We need to temporarily close the Hitman Absolution servers for Contracts Mode and remove all Contracts Mode DLC for sale from all platforms. No excuse for everybody not to get cracking as soon as the game’s out in Europe and other PAL regions on November 20th – we’ll be talking more about the some of the cool CONTRACTS being created post-launch, so make sure to check back often.We wanted to give you a heads-up about an incoming change to Hitman Absolution. “The only thing you need to worry about then is just how challenging your CONTRACT will be. See you online!” reads the post. The Hitman Tumblr now reports that the pass will now be free to download for everyone. North American players will be able to access the mode straight from the main menu, and elsewhere in the world, players will have to download the Contracts Pass either by redeeming the code in the box, or downloading it for free from Xbox LIVE Marketplace or PlayStation Store. New copies do ship with a single-use ‘Contracts Pass Code’, so this would essentially only have affected those who were picking up a pre-played copy. Square Enix and IO Interactive have decided to scrap the pass code to access Hitman Absolution ‘Contracts Mode’.
